Morocco intercepted 75,184 migrants in 2023, a 6% increase over the previous year.

Since January 2024, Morocco has intercepted 45,015 individuals attempting illegal migration to Europe and dismantled 177 trafficking gangs, according to the state news agency MAP. The country faces rising migratory pressure due to instability in the Sahel. In 2023, Morocco stopped 75,184 migrants, a 6% increase from the prior year. Cooperation with Spain has strengthened, but heightened border surveillance has led some migrants to seek the riskier Atlantic route to the Canary Islands.
