Moroccan authorities intercepted over 1,100 migrants near Spanish exclaves of Ceuta and Melilla.

The Moroccan army intercepted over 1,100 migrants attempting to reach Spanish exclaves of Ceuta and Melilla on New Year's Eve. Over 1,110 people were detained in Nador, M'diq, and Fnideq. The 175 migrants apprehended in Nador were from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Yemen. Ceuta and Melilla are the European Union's only land borders on the African continent and are frequently targeted by migrants seeking mainland Europe.
