Lightning struck Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, New Jersey, igniting a fire at the Sea Turtle Recovery building during a storm. The building, operated by the Sea Turtle Recovery organization, houses sick and injured sea turtles. No people or animals were inside during the fire, and no animals were seriously injured. The fire department extinguished the flames, and staff and volunteers rescued the turtles, including a critically endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtle. The turtles will be transferred to the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society in New York for care. The Sea Turtle Recovery organization is seeking donations to help with recovery and temporary accommodations.
