46-year-old Death Valley hiker rescued by Navy helicopter after passing out due to dehydration.
46-year-old Panamint Springs Resort employee was rescued after dehydration caused him to pass out during a hike in Death Valley National Park. Hiking 8.5 miles and climbing 4,600 feet, he ran out of water and lost consciousness, sliding down a slope. Using his Garmin device's SOS function, he was rescued by a Navy helicopter. He urged fellow hikers to carry extra water, plan hikes, and inform others of their whereabouts.
