69-year-old Texas man Scott Sims died while hiking in Grand Canyon National Park to reach Phantom Ranch for an overnight stay. On June 29th, park officials received a report of a semi-conscious hiker on the River Trail between the Silver Bridge and Black Bridge. Sims became unresponsive shortly after and bystanders initiated CPR as paramedics arrived from Phantom Ranch. All resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful. The National Park Service and Coconino County Medical Examiner are investigating the incident, and park rangers advise against hiking in the inner canyon during extreme heat.
