Environmentalist Bob Brown fined $500 for protesting in a logging area in Tasmania.

Environmentalist Bob Brown was fined $500 for protesting in a logging area in Tasmania's Eastern Tiers, alongside fellow activists Kristy Alger and Karen Weldrick. Brown and his fellow activists claimed they were protecting the habitat of the critically endangered swift parrot. Magistrate Jackie Hartnett fined Brown but did not record a conviction, partly due to his previous clean record. Brown plans to appeal the conviction, arguing that the forestry activity was illegal.
