Undersea cables, responsible for transmitting 99% of global internet traffic, face vulnerabilities to man-made damage, such as dragging anchors and deep-sea fishing, accounting for 70% of cable faults. Natural hazards, like the Tonga eruption, account for 14%. Intentional sabotage is rare but a potential concern. NATO established a center to protect these cables and pipelines.
