Global board formed to protect vital submarine cables amid repair and damage concerns.

The ITU and ICPC have formed a 40-member global advisory board to enhance the resilience of submarine telecommunication cables, critical for 99% of international data exchanges. The board will focus on promoting timely repair and reducing damage risks. This initiative comes amid reports of a Chinese ship suspected of damaging cables in the Baltic Sea, which China denies. The inaugural summit is set for early 2025 in Abuja, Nigeria.
