UN creates body to protect global internet infrastructure, focusing on vital submarine cables.

The United Nations has established the International Advisory Body for Submarine Cable Resilience to protect global digital connectivity. This body, under the International Telecommunication Union, aims to improve the resilience of submarine cables, which handle over 99% of international data, by promoting best practices and ensuring timely repairs. The group, with 40 members, will meet in 2025 in Nigeria for its first summit.
