Residents of Liberia's Nimba, Bong, and Grand Bassa counties protested against ArcelorMittal for unfulfilled social corporate benefits, pollution, and alleged corruption.

Community residents in Liberia's Nimba, Bong, and Grand Bassa counties protested against ArcelorMittal for failing to provide promised social corporate benefits like healthcare, roads, education, and compensation for land loss and destroyed homes. They allege the company's operations led to pollution, loud noises, and corruption in Nimba County, where over $30m USD is unaccounted for, primarily from the County Scrap and the County Social Development Fund. An investigation revealed that Nimba County Superintendent and District #8 Representative are accused of sabotaging fair development by illegally removing scrap assets meant for communities.
