Researchers found that US physicians' reluctance in addressing addiction stems mainly from a lack of institutional support, knowledge, skill, and cognitive capacity. Out of 283 previous studies reviewed, these were the most common reasons doctors did not adopt evidence-based substance use disorder interventions in their practice. The results were published in the JAMA Network Open on July 17th and were funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
