Energy regulator Ofgem extends ban on acquisition-only tariffs until at least March 2025.
Energy regulator Ofgem has decided to maintain the ban on acquisition-only tariffs, which offer cheaper rates exclusively to new customers, to ensure all customers can access the best deals available. The ban, introduced in April 2022 as a short-term measure during the energy crisis, was due to be lifted in March 2023 but has now been extended until at least March 31, 2025. Ofgem's decision follows a consultation in which consumer groups and most suppliers supported keeping the ban to prevent unfair treatment of existing customers and avoid the "loyalty penalty."
