The US federal government is granting $575m to 19 coastal communities to help them use nature-based preventive measures against climate-related flooding and disasters. The funding, announced by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will prioritize Native American, urban, and underserved areas frequently hit by floods, wildfires, and other weather-related incidents. The projects include over $72m for "living shorelines" in New Jersey, using native plants, oyster reefs, and other natural materials to restore and protect waterfronts.
