2cm textile fragment in "Cave of Skulls" reveals earliest evidence of biblical 'scarlet worm' red dye.
Archaeologists discovered the earliest evidence of 'scarlet worm' red dye in a 2cm textile fragment found in the "Cave of Skulls" in the Judean Desert. The dye, created from scale insects, is mentioned in the Bible. The discovery was made during an excavation by the Israel Antiquities Authority and the Hebrew University to prevent antiquities theft. This adds color to the black-and-white text of Scriptures.
