White Sox draft pick Hagen Smith, a left-handed pitcher, receives an $8M bonus, highest for a lefty.
The White Sox have agreed to an $8 million bonus with their fifth overall draft pick, Hagen Smith, a left-handed pitcher from the University of Arkansas. Smith, who was the second pitcher taken off the board, had his best season as a junior with a 2.06 ERA across 84 innings in the SEC and trailed only Burns among Division I pitchers with 161 strikeouts, an incredible 48.6% rate. The $8 million bonus is the highest signing bonus ever for a left-handed pitcher.
