India's peak power demand projected to reach 400 GW by 2031-32, requiring 900 GW installed capacity.

Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal announced at the CII-Smart Metering Conference that India's peak power demand is expected to surpass 400 GW by 2031-32, up from the initially projected 384 GW mark. This year's peak power demand projection is 260 GW, expected to be reached by September, with current demand at 250 GW. To accommodate this growth, installed power generation capacity must reach 900 GW.
