India's installed power generation capacity rose 80% over the last 10 years, reaching 446,190 MW (4.46 GW) in June 2024. Coal-based power capacity increased from 139,663 MW in March 2014 to 210,969 MW in June 2024, while renewable sector capacity increased from 75,519 MW to 195,013 MW during the same period. The government plans to establish an additional 80 GW coal-based capacity by 2031-32.
