25% drop in electric car sales in Ireland's first half despite overall new car registrations increase.

New electric car sales in Ireland showed a 25% drop in the first half of the year, despite a 1.7% overall increase in new car registrations, with 78,942 new vehicles on Irish roads. Petrol engines remained the most popular format for new car buyers, representing 33% of sales, followed by diesel engines at 22.9% and petrol-electric hybrids with over 20%. Electric cars accounted for 13.6% of sales, while plug-in hybrids made up 8.8% of new car sales.
