Wicklow County in Ireland has the highest EV sales at 19.8% since 2020, while Roscommon has the lowest at 3.4%.

A report shows that Wicklow County in Ireland has the highest percentage of electric vehicle (EV) sales since 2020 at 19.8%, while Roscommon County has the lowest at 3.4%, or one in 29 cars sold. Former Environment Minister Richard Bruton calls for bigger incentives for rural drivers to make the switch and for the government to prioritize electrification efforts. Professor Brian Caulfield from Trinity College Dublin suggests that cost could be a significant contributing factor to the rural-urban divide in EV adoption, with wealthier urban areas showing greater uptake of electric cars. The Irish government aims for one million EVs on Irish roads by 2027.
