24 western Victorian CFA brigades refuse to fight fires on properties with renewable energy infrastructure, citing unmitigated additional fire risk. These brigades, centered in the eastern Wimmera region, are part of the Victoria to New South Wales Interconnector (VNI West) renewable energy project's conflict zone. Their decision follows the formation of Firefighters Against Renewables Over Victoria (FAROV), which initially consisted of five brigades.
