Facial recognition startup Clearview AI settles Illinois privacy lawsuit for $50m, without admitting liability.
Facial recognition startup Clearview AI has settled a privacy lawsuit in Illinois for an estimated $50m. The settlement allows plaintiffs in the federal suit to have a share of the company's potential value instead of a traditional payout, with attorneys' fees estimated at $20m also coming out of the settlement amount. Clearview AI collected photos from social media and other online platforms to create a database that it sold to businesses, individuals, and government entities. The company does not admit liability as part of the settlement agreement.
