Meta, Facebook's parent company, has agreed to a $1.4bn settlement with Texas over allegations of illegally collecting facial recognition data on millions of users, violating state laws. This is the largest data privacy settlement brought by a state. The lawsuit, filed in 2022, claimed that Meta violated Texas state privacy laws by automatically tagging users' faces on its platform. The settlement will be distributed to Texas over five years.
