Canadian court bans U.S. firm Clearview AI from collecting citizens' images without consent.
British Columbia's Supreme Court has upheld a ruling against U.S. AI firm Clearview AI, banning it from collecting images of British Columbians without consent. Clearview, which uses facial recognition technology, has amassed over three billion images and serves police departments and the RCMP. Despite arguing that the data was publicly available, the court found Clearview's practices violated privacy laws and ordered the deletion of Canadian data and cessation of services in the country.
