8.4% increase in China's hydropower output due to heavy rainfall in the Yangtze River basin.

Deadly rains in China have led to a boost in hydropower generation, with China's hydropower output rising 8.4% in the first four months compared to the previous year. The increase is attributed to heavy rainfall in the Yangtze River basin and has led to record highs in hydroelectric stocks and China's biggest dam company nearing $100 billion in market value. This follows two years of restrained output due to a 2022 drought, and has helped reduce fossil fuel demand and put China on track to peak emissions more than a half-decade before its initial deadline.
