The Scottish Government plans to release 550 prisoners early due to overcrowding in jails. Justice Secretary Angela Constance has published the regulations, which would release eligible prisoners in four tranches from the end of June. The Early Release of Prisoners and Prescribed Victim Supporters Regulations are expected to come into force on June 13 and will apply to prisoners serving sentences of less than four years due to be released within six months.
