Scottish Human Rights Commission report highlights government inaction on prison overcrowding, suicides, and mental health issues, leading to increased deaths in prisons.

A new report by the Scottish Human Rights Commission (SHRC) states that lives of Scottish prisoners are at risk due to the government's inaction on prison issues over decades. The report criticises the slow progress in addressing overcrowding, suicides, and mental health problems in prisons, with only 17% of human rights recommendations implemented in the past decade. At least 346 people have died in Scottish prisons in the past 10 years, with suicide and drug-related deaths on the rise.
