Scottish government considers releasing long-term prisoners after 2/3 of sentence, with community supervision, to combat rising prison population.

The Scottish government is considering proposals to release long-term prisoners after serving two-thirds of their sentence, in an attempt to combat the country's rising prison population. Under these plans, inmates would spend more time under community supervision as part of their sentence, with the intention of providing a more managed return to the community and reducing pressure on the prison estate. The consultation does not apply to those serving extended sentences for violent or sexual offences.
