Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) and Wild Africa Fund launch an awareness campaign in Somaliland, northern Somalia, to combat the illegal wildlife pet trade in cheetahs from the Horn of Africa. The initiative aims to protect Somaliland's wildlife and raise global awareness about the devastating impacts of the trade, with over 200 cheetahs trafficked into the Middle East annually from a regional population of about 400 individuals in the Horn of Africa. The CCF is caring for 97 rescued cheetahs at its Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Center in Somaliland. The global cheetah population is less than 7,000 individuals.
