India begins phased reintroduction of African cheetahs from Kuno National Park in October.
India will begin releasing African cheetahs into the wild from Kuno National Park in phases starting late October. The first two cheetahs, Vayu and Agni, will be monitored for adaptation. This initiative follows the successful translocation of 20 cheetahs from Namibia and South Africa, despite the death of eight adults. Currently, the population includes 24 cheetahs, with plans to expand to other habitats and negotiate for additional cheetahs from South Africa and Kenya.
