B.C. restaurants could face an average $800,000 conversion cost to switch from natural gas to electricity, according to a new report by Pacific Solutions Contracting. The report was commissioned by the BC Restaurant and Foodservices Association (BCFRSA) and the BC Coalition for Affordable Dependable Energy, urging municipal governments to pause zero carbon step code regulations that would ban the use of natural gas in new buildings ahead of the 2030 provincial targets. The groups argue that such regulations should consider the economic impact on restaurants and the feasibility of multiple restaurants having to convert to electricity.
