The European Union (EU) has announced the end of its Military Partnership Mission in Niger (EUMPM) due to the "grave political situation" in the junta-led country. The mission, which began in December 2022, aimed to enhance the Niger Armed Forces' capacity to fight terrorism while adhering to human rights and international humanitarian law. The EU Council decided against extending the mission's mandate beyond June 2024, citing the ongoing political instability.
