Climate change increases risk of cryptosporidiosis outbreaks in NZ, warn researchers. Extreme rainfall events becoming more frequent may lead to higher levels of diarrhoea-causing parasites being washed into waterways, increasing the likelihood of outbreaks. A study published in Epidemiology & Infection found 38 statistically significant clusters of outbreaks linked to severe weather events in New Zealand between 1997 and 2015.
