Study finds extreme rainfall events increase overall and respiratory-related deaths.

A study led by Helmholtz Munich found that extreme rainfall events, occurring roughly every five years, significantly raise mortality risks, especially for individuals with cardiovascular and respiratory conditions. Analyzing data from 645 locations globally from 1980 to 2020, the research revealed an 8% increase in overall deaths and a 30% rise in lung-related fatalities within 14 days post-event. The findings underscore the necessity for enhanced public health strategies and infrastructure improvements to combat these risks.
