11.8-year study finds LCHF diets linked to increased LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B levels, and higher risk of major adverse cardiovascular events.

A recent study by University of British Columbia researchers suggests that keto-like low-carb, high-fat (LCHF) diets, popular for weight loss, may pose risks to heart health. Following the LCHF diet was associated with increased LDL ("bad") cholesterol, apolipoprotein B levels, and a higher risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). In the study, 9.8% of LCHF participants experienced a MACE after 11.8 years, compared to 4.3% of those on a standard diet.
