Study in Canadian Journal of Cardiology suggests plant-based meat alternatives improve cardiovascular risk factors compared to meat.

A new study suggests that plant-based meat alternatives may be healthier for the heart than real meat, as they have a more cardioprotective nutritional profile and improve cardiovascular risk factors compared to meat. The research, published in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology, analyzed studies from 1970 to 2023 and found that plant-based meat alternatives tend to reflect a heart-healthy dietary pattern. Despite variability in contents and nutritional profiles, the study consistently showed that plant-based alternatives improved cardiovascular risk factors such as cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
