A Lakota student's feather plume was removed from her graduation cap during her high school commencement ceremony in northwestern New Mexico. Farmington's school district, which has a large Native American student population, prohibits cap and gown modifications but allows traditional regalia underneath. The school district acknowledged that the situation could have been handled better.
