Senators Murray and Tillis introduced the Purple Heart Veterans Education Act, allowing retroactive Purple Heart recipients to transfer GI Bill benefits to children.

Senators Patty Murray (D-WA) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) introduced a bipartisan bill, the Purple Heart Veterans Education Act, to enable retroactive Purple Heart award recipients who served on or after September 11, 2001, to transfer their GI Bill education benefits to their children. The current rule allows such transfers only for those who receive the Purple Heart while still in service.
