Illinois returns long-lost Purple Heart medals to families of two World War II veterans.

Families of two World War II veterans received long-lost Purple Heart medals in Illinois recently. Walter C. Huffman's medal was returned to his family, honoring his service and sacrifice. Similarly, Delbert Tuttle's Purple Heart, awarded for his wounds during the Battle of Saipan, was given back to his daughter Carolyn Peckham. These returns are part of the Illinois State Treasurer's "Operation Purple Heart," aimed at identifying and returning unclaimed medals to veterans' families.
