UK's Automated Vehicles (AV) Act becomes law, enabling self-driving vehicles on UK roads by 2026.
The UK government's new Automated Vehicles (AV) Act has become law, opening the way for self-driving vehicles to be on UK roads by 2026. The legislation, which received royal assent, requires self-driving vehicles to achieve a level of safety at least as high as careful and competent human drivers, while meeting other safety checks. The government estimates the sector could be worth up to £42 billion and could create up to 38,000 jobs by 2035.
