The United Nations expects internationally-agreed rules for fully autonomous cars to be ready by mid-2026. Despite safety concerns and costs slowing progress on autonomous vehicles, work on regulations is advancing, according to the UN. The World Forum for Harmonisation of Vehicle Regulations, which meets three times a year, is responsible for shaping the legal framework for inland transport.
