17,034 elderly individuals aged 65 and over living alone in Japan died at home from January to March, according to a recent National Police Agency survey, which covered 60,466 deceased handled by Japanese police during the period. The majority of these "lonely deaths" occurred without anyone else witnessing the event, with a period passing before the body was discovered. The NPA plans to continue collecting this data.
