A UK study finds that text messaging with financial incentives significantly improves weight loss in obese men.
A UK study reveals that text messaging with financial incentives significantly improved weight loss in men with obesity compared to a control group, while text messaging alone was not significantly better. The Game of Stones trial, conducted since 2010, found men lost an average of 4.8% of their body weight in a year. The study, which involved 585 men from Bristol, Belfast, and Glasgow, split participants into three groups with one group receiving £400 and having money deducted if weight loss goals were not met. Daily texts with motivational messages, tips on lifestyle changes, and access to a weight management website were sent to all participants.
