UK Metropolitan Police officer Jonathan Marsh received a suspended prison sentence for assaulting a man mistaken as a crime suspect.
A Metropolitan Police officer in the UK has been sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, for assaulting a man he mistakenly thought was a crime suspect. PC Jonathan Marsh responded to a call about someone damaging a sign at a clinic in Romford, East London, on 13 November 2022. He arrested the victim, Rasike Attanayake, handcuffed him, and punched him in the back of the head before realizing his mistake. Marsh was found guilty of common assault and ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and pay the victim £1,500 in compensation.
