Lisbon city council approves doubling tourist tax from €2 to €4 per person per night.

Lisbon's city council has approved a doubling of the 'tourist tax' for visitors, taking it from €2 to €4 per person per night. The additional revenue will be used to maintain city infrastructure. Mayor Carlos Moedas warns that the tax hike will increase the cost of a holiday by £12 per person, or nearly £50 more for a family of four. The new tax is subject to a 30-day consultation before it comes into force.
