40-year-old Indian national Banmeet Singh has been sentenced to five years in prison for selling controlled substances on dark web marketplaces, including fentanyl, LSD, ecstasy, Xanax, ketamine, and tramadol. Singh, from Haldwani, was arrested in London in 2019 at the request of US authorities, extradited to the US in 2023, and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances and conspiracy to commit money laundering. He created vendor marketing sites on dark web platforms like Silk Road, Alpha Bay, and Hansa, and customers paid with cryptocurrency for drugs ordered from Singh, who then personally shipped or arranged the shipment of the drugs.
