Researchers identify factors contributing to alcohol-induced blackouts beyond alcohol amount, suggesting targeted interventions.

Researchers found that the speed of intoxication, duration of increasing intoxication levels, and peak intoxication levels are factors that contribute to alcohol-induced blackouts, not just the amount of alcohol consumed. The study, involving 79 college students, suggests that interventions targeting these drinking behaviors may reduce the risk of blackouts. The findings were published in Alcohol: Clinical and Experimental Research.
