Ashland police killed a cougar near an elementary school after it attacked a domestic cat and other wild animals, which was unusual as cougars are common in the area but do not usually approach humans during daylight hours. Authorities locked down the Siskiyou School during the incident, and the cougar was killed around 2:45 pm. Police cleared the area, stating there is no longer a threat to the community.
