British Columbia's government is buying land for a transit-oriented housing development in Saanich, Vancouver Island. The province has purchased two parcels of land for the Uptown development through the $394m property acquisition fund operated by the Transportation Ministry. Premier David Eby plans to build "hundreds" of new homes, retail and commercial capacity, with possible amenities such as childcare, public spaces and a transit hub.
