US Coast Guard commissions WWII hero's cutter, Melvin Bell (WPC-1155), for fisheries enforcement.

The US Coast Guard has commissioned a new fast response cutter named the Melvin Bell in honor of a World War II hero who transmitted the first radio messages warning of the Pearl Harbor attack. The Melvin Bell (WPC-1155) is a 154-foot-long cutter with a 24-person crew and is tasked with fisheries enforcement across the northeast coast. The commissioning ceremony took place at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, where Robert Bell, the hero's son, attended the event.
