The keel for the USS William Charette (DDG 130), the 80th Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, has been laid at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works in Maine. This ceremony, a naval tradition, marks the ship's construction start. Named after Medal of Honor recipient Master Chief Hospital Corpsman William R. Charette, the destroyer features advanced missile defense systems. BIW is also building several other ships in this class.
